TSL Handy Tips

Last updated: 6th May 2008

Getting Free Stuff

  • Search for Free or Freebies in Search or your Inventory Search Bar
  • Teleport to The Nix Bazaar, Eye4you Orientation

Building

  • Right-click the ground and choose Create to open the tools window. You can also press CTRL + 4
  • You can only create objects on land that permits the creation of objects. Land that prohibits object creation is marked NO BUILD. You can identify no-build land by an icon that appears at the top of your screen when standing on no-build land or shown not highlighted at the bottom of your screen.
  • Linking >  hold down Shift and click on each prim you wish to link together, one at a time. Make the most important prim (root) the last one you select (such as the seat of a vehicle). Then, go to the Tools menu and select Link, or just press CTRL + L.
  • You can select Tools > Unlink or press CTRL + SHIFT + L to break the object apart. There are limits to how large a creation you can link together:  No single object may have more than 256 prims, and no physics-enabled object may have more than 31 prims.
  • Creator of a prim > Right hand click > General > Creator > Profile
  • To find the objects responsible, Select Client > Show Updates. This will display an animating blue or red flash each time an object changes itself. If you have a high concentration of red flashes, these objects are probably to blame.
  • A prim / object in SL can be no bigger than 10m x 10m x 10m. This is a built-in restriction of TSL and so to create larger objects than 10m several prims may need to be used.
  • So with your prim selected, if you press CTRL and D, the prim will be duplicated and offset from the first by 0.5m. The duplicated prim is an exact clone of the first prim
  • You can link upto 255 prims together in one object, the prims must be no further than 30m apart from each other
  • To unlink objects, select the object then hold CTRL and SHIFT and press L. The prims will all now be highlighted yellow, but will be linked

  • Save snapshot to harddrive > Saving to your hard drive also allows you to take and save snapshots at a much higher, undistorted resolution than with the other options.
  • The maximum size for a Send a Postcard snapshot is 1 megabyte = 1,000,000 bytes

Sound & Particle Sources

  • Sounds originate from a source object. Finding the source object is the best way to edit and remove sound clips emitted from a sound source in the area
  • By selecting View > Beacons > Sound Sources, the source of sound effects will be highlighted with yellow axes. Yellow lines along XYZ axeswill center on all objects within view that emit sound.
  • Select View > Highlight Transparent. This makes invisible objects visible and highlighted red. Many sound sources are invisible but can be seen with this tool
